Used for environmental testing of salinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), or conductivity in water samples

The S125 Conductivity Sensor is used for environmental testing of salinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), or conductivity in water samples.

The S125 Conductivity Sensor can be used in teaching to demonstrate diffusion of ions through membranes or to monitor changes in ion levels in aquatic systems. In Chemistry education it can be used to investigate the difference between ionic and molecular compounds, strong and weak acids, or ionic compounds that yield different ratios of ions. The Conductivity Probe can monitor concentration or conductivity at three different sensitivity settings.

Readings can be taken in units of conductivity (µS/cm) or concentration (mg/L TDS as NaCl) At three different sensitivity settings:

0-100 mg/L TDS or 0-200 µS/cm
0-1000 mg/L TDS or 0-2000 µS/cm
0-10000 mg/L TDS or 0-20,000 µS/cm

Conductivity is directly proportional to concentration over the entire range.

The probe has a fast response time, reaching 98% of full value in less than 5 seconds. We recommend using it with C410 LabPro acquisition Interface or C420 Go-Link USB data acquisition interface and C901 LoggerPro data acquisition software. You can load pre-saved calibrations. Alternatively, you can do a quick two-point calibration: the probe is left out of solution for one calibration point (0 µS/cm) and is placed in a known standard (1000 µS/cm solution is provided) for a second calibration point. More precise calibration in two different standards is also possible using our C901 LoggerPro software.

The S125 Conductivity Sensor uses alternating current at its electrodes; this prevents polarization and electrolysis, so that solutions being tested are not fouled. Corrosion of metal electrodes is not a problem with this epoxy-body graphite electrode. It has built-in temperature compensation, which allows performance of calibrations in the lab, and measurements outdoors without temperature changes affecting conductivity readings.

The S125 Conductivity Sensor comes with a Sodium Chloride Calibration Standard (equivalent to 1000 uS/cm, 491 mg/L as NaCI, or 500 mg/L TDS) and the Conductivity Sensor Manual.

The S172Dissolved O2 Cuvette Thermistor is incorporated into the plunger of the cuvette so that it measures the temperature of the sample directly. This allows corrections to be made for measurements of dissolved oxygen when the oxygen electrode is calibrated at one temperature and used at a different temperature. It also allows accurate investigations of the temperature dependence of physiological and biochemical processes.

The tip of the thermistor is very fine and encased in glass. It protrudes slightly from the lower surface of the plunger to make contact with liquid in the sample chamber.

Qubit Systems’ combined S161 Humidity and Temperature Sensor allows simultaneous measurements of relative humidity and air temperature in a flow through gas. Water vapor concentration can then be calculated in absolute units. No calibration is needed if used with C901 Logger Pro software and the associated calibration files (factory calibrated). We recommend the use of C410 LabPro data acquisition interface with S161 for logging the temperature and relative humidity of a gas.

The S161 Humidity and Temperature sensor is only 5 x 8 x 3 (cm) and has a temperature range of -50 to 100°C. The relative humidity range is from 0 to 100%.

The S161 Humidity and Temperature Sensor is ideal for transpiration measurements in an open-flow gas exchange system. It comes with our CO650 Advanced CO2 Analysis Packages and is optional in the CO750 Field Package.

It may also be used to study water loss from animals or to observe temperature and humidity levels in environmental chambers.
