Laboratory Teaching and Research: Human, Animal, Insect, Aquatic, Plant
Many of Qubit’s research packages are affordable enough for teaching budgets, allowing students to work in small groups on exciting projects that yield publishable data. In addition, our Q-teach packages are designed specifically for teaching. We also provide all our analyzers, sensors, pumps, flow meters, ancillary equipment and software as individual items so that you may equip your teaching and research labs with customized set-ups for your specific interests.

Climate Change: Measurements and Effects
As we come to the close of #WorldOceansWeek, climate change is on our minds at Qubit Systems, as are the many impacts this existential threat is having on both aquatic and terrestrial environments. Monitoring the effects of climate change is the research focus of many Qubit clients. A selection of the instruments we design and manufacture to meet the needs of this critical research is highlighted below.

Gas Exchange Chambers for Photosynthesis and Respirometry
Today – Thursday May 20th – is World Bee Day, and a reminder to say thanks to all those pollinators we depend upon. This week’s newsletter focuses on chambers in which to study the physiology of bees, other insects, animals, aquatic organisms, plants and microbes. Whatever your requirements, Qubit has a long history of providing customized chambers for diverse applications in plant and animal research. Let us know what your needs are, and we will work with you towards an optimal solution.

Time to Celebrate Photosynthesis
Twenty-six years ago, Qubit’s first products were designed to provide affordable photosynthesis measurements in the laboratory and the field. Since then, we have continued to develop a broad range of accurate, rugged and cost-effective products to monitor photosynthetic rate in both terrestrial and aquatic environments, as well as providing ancillary equipment for gas monitoring and environmental control. Our PhD-level staff scientists have published extensively in the field and are always available to assist you in selecting the most appropriate technology for your applications.

Introduction to Respirometry
What is respirometry and how is it measured? See our one-page informational resource: a simple setup diagram, the difference between open and closed systems, and current practices for measuring aquatic and human metabolism.

Animal Respirometry: If it respires, we can measure it
Over our 26 year history, the team at Qubit Systems has provided respirometry systems to measure metabolism in cattle, pigs, dogs, cats, turtles, drosophila, black widow spiders, bats, turkeys and humans. We are currently developing a system for Deakin University in Australia to monitor seal weaners in the Arctic. Are you working with a “difficult” organism? Give us a call – we love a challenge.

Aquatic Biology Research
World Water Day was March 22nd. Learn here what water means to different people. In this newsletter, we highlight recent publications from aquatic biologists using Qubit equipment. For all aspects of animal and plant metabolism, including aquatic research, metabolism we are committed to providing instrumentation of exceptional quality at the most affordable prices.

March – Celebrating Canadian Women Scientists
Happy International Women’s Day! This month we celebrate and highlight the research of Canadian Women in the Biological Sciences.
